College for the Devoted Life - 2012

BREAKING BREAD:  NOURISHMENT FOR THE LENTEN JOURNEY

Join other families, parents and elementary children, for conversations around the table.

Each week will begin with a brunch meal together, followed by topics that will enrich your spiritual journey during Lent.  

Week 1 is for parents and children of any elementary age, but week 2 is specifically designed for parents and children of Kindergarteners and 1st graders who are considering taking their first communion.  You will be fed – body, mind and spirit. These courses will be taught by Ruth Davidson, Director of Children’s Ministry.  Register through the VillageU College for the Devoted Life, or e-mail ruth@villagepres.org (we need a reservation a week prior to each workshop to allow for food and materials preparation). Preschool children can join the family for brunch and then be taken for child care (reservations need to be given with child’s name and birthday).

Join us for Family Conversations About Prayer

Following brunch, we will explore various prayer practices for the Lenten season and beyond.   We will explore the kinds of prayer as a P-A-T-H to use in your own prayer life. We will create some family prayer practices such as a blessing bowl and a prayer pot. We will also make a Lord’s Prayer with Beads, which has a companion guided meditation. Registration deadline is 2/19.

 

Week 2 – March 4, 2012, 10:40-12:00 noon, in Room 206

Join us for Family Conversations About Holy Communion  

Following brunch, we will explore the sacrament of Holy Communion.  We will remember Jesus, learn about the communion elements, and understand how it is that children are welcome at the table.  This will be a preparation for children who wish to take their first communion on Maundy Thursday.   Registration deadline is 2/26.  

 

We’ve Flipped Over our Teachers,

So…We’re honoring them on Sunday, May 27!

 

The Children’s Ministry Committee would like to thank our teachers for their commitment to teach our children during the 2011-2012 church school year. On Sunday, May 27, our volunteer church school staff (nursery, preschool, shepherds, Kids’ Kingdom) will be recognized at all of the worship services and also in Friendship Hall at a Pancake Feast.   Chris Cakes will be here to do the professional flapjack flipping, and there will be time for everyone to flip over our wonderful volunteer teaching staff.

 

Worship at 8:00, 9:30, 10:45 (The Gathering) or 11:00 a.m.

Church School Classes at 9:30 a.m.  

Enjoy all you can eat pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee.

Tickets are $4 at the door.

Doors open at 9:00 a.m. and close at 12:30 p.m.

 

 

 

Lent-Easter Season 2012

The Lent-Easter Season includes activities about the season of Lent and the days of Holy Week. Families can learn about waiting, remembering and preparing for Easter. Traditions include the Palm Sunday Parade and the Easter Flowering of the Cross.
